Job description
We are looking for a Jiu Jitsu instructor/trainer starting from 1st January, initially until July 2025. The role involves 2.5 teaching hours per week, beginning at 17:30. You will be responsible for teaching beginner classes (1 hour per session) and acting as the sensei for the Yoroshi Judo Club (1.5 hours), which also includes advanced students up to black belt level. As a part of the Martial Arts & Defence group you will join the disciplinary meeting 2 times a year. During that meeting you will inspire and work together with other colleagues on the future development of your expertise.
Job requirements
- You have affinity with students;
- You are enthusiastic, flexible and involved;
- You have a showable experience and/or degree in (teaching) the named Martial Arts discipline;
- You have a good command of the English language, command of the Dutch language is advantageous;
- You have a well-developed empathy;
- You’re a team player who can work well together and are interested in other cultures.
Benefits and rates of salary
For this position, we are looking for someone for a temporary assignment through employment agency Unique until July 2025, or as a self-employed person. The assignment has a scope of 2.5 hours per week. For temporary employees, classification takes place in scale 8, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities, with the salary being determined on the basis of experience and qualities. For freelancers, the conditions and rates are determined by negotiation.

The university corporate office Education & Student Affairs (ESA) provides educational support by taking care of education and student administration, coordinating education policy, supporting and supervising Dutch and international students and PhD candidates, providing training in teaching and other areas, giving educational advice and support and organising sport and culture activities. ESA is made up of the departments Education Service Centre, Academic Services, Extension School and X. ESA employs around 250 staff. The three pillars of Products, Systems and Communication together make X's offer possible, in which some 15,000 students and staff members participate each year. Themes that underpin X’s programming are lifestyle, reflection, sports, games, arts and crafts. Thanks to the help of students (organisations), teachers and trainers, X is able to provide an attractive programme of courses, ticket hours, events and projects. In addition, students can initiate their own programming and/or activities and can make free use of facilities such as a student kitchen and student living room.

Sports & Games
The Sports & Games cluster is part of the Products pillar and is responsible for the programme offer in the field of ball sports, e-sports, games, strength sports, outdoor, racket sports, Martial Arts and defence sports and water sports. In daily practice, this translates into the development, realisation and facilitation of ticket hours, courses, competitions, events and other initiatives. The team consists of 3 staff members, 2 student employees and works closely together with around 80 teachers and 40 student association boards.
Martial arts & Defence
As part of the broad programme of activities, X offers a diverse range of martial arts and defence sports, ranging from boxing, Thai boxing and MMA to Japanese martial arts (judo, jiu jitsu, karate and aikido). Together with BJJ, capoeria and fencing, they form the total Martial Arts & Defence programme. This programme consists of weekly lessons that are scheduled per quarter (ticket hours), lesson series of 7 weeks (courses) and activities of student Budo association Yoroshi. Occasionally, professional events take place.
