Graduation opportunities

2025-01-21 | Conversational agent to train healthcare professionals in implementing Lifestyle Medicine at the LUMC, Leiden University Medical Center in collaboration with TU Delft

This graduation project aims to develop an avatar-based conversational agent as a training tool for healthcare professionals to teach them how to conduct an effective lifestyle counselling conversation with patients with various characteristics in a limited time. As a designer, you will be challenged to develop a suiting service that connects with our medical professionals to help them implement lifestyle medicine in practice.

2025-01-21 | An innovative design of a solar heated water pump, TU Delft

In the coming decades the world is facing a critical dependence on water. United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2, “Creating a world free of hunger by 2030”, requires new and efficient means of water transportation. About 40 % of water used in irrigation is wasted through unsustainable practices such as field flooding. Modern irrigation systems can drastically reduce the amount of water used in farming by efficiently delivering water directly to plants. This reduces the amount of water lost through surface evaporation by 30 to 70 % depending on crop and weather conditions [source: International Water Management Institute]. According to Sustainable Development Goal 6, the world population must have access to safe drinking water by 2030, while currently two billion people do not yet have this basic need. This graduation project aims to develop a highly robust, scalable, and affordable water displacement pump to contribute to these SDGs.

2025-01-14 | Usability design of the needle insertion module of the surgical robotic system, Syntric Medical

Syntric Medical is developing a robotic technology with which CT-guided lung biopsies on small and moving targets become more effective and safe. Lung cancer is with 2.2m cases yearly a major cause for cancer-related deaths worldwide. Fortunately, earlier diagnosis and new revolutionary therapies have proven to be able to save lives. Syntric Medical is focused on developing new technology to safely and effectively take tissue samples at an early stage.

2025-01-14 | European market entry strategy for an innovative new heating system, Karel Bodegom, Consentino, the Pillen Group, AJE design

The way we use energy for spatial heating is undergoing a significant transformation due to growing environmental concerns, advances in technology, and the need for greater energy efficiency. Traditionally, heating systems have relied heavily on fossil fuels, such as natural gas and coal, but these sources are increasingly being phased out in favor of more sustainable alternatives. The rise of renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, and geothermal, coupled with innovations in heat pump technology and smart grid systems, is reshaping how buildings are heated. The idea originated from an invention done by interior architect / spatial artist Karel Bodegom in 2019 and subsequently a group of engineers and material producers formed a consortium to developed an innovative heating system: “LLeHs”, Long Lasting Electric Heating System. The system can provide zone-based heating to create comfortable circumstances for human beings, using electricity from the grid or behind the meter electricity generation. The collaborating parties are looking for a graduate of the Master in Strategic Product Design (SPD) to create an European market entry strategy for this innovative new heating system.

2025-01-14 | Circular product design for the building sector using natural fibre composites, Eve reverse

Do you like designing and testing prototypes in an iterative process while also working on material and application development for the circular economy? We might have something interesting for you! At Eve reverse we have developed a new method of creating natural fiber reinforced composites which significantly shortens the production chain. The fibers are combined with several innovative polymers to form fully bio based composites that have the potential to be high performance carbon sinks! Your task will be to tailor this fibre preform towards the construction/building sector and to find the right application...and built it! (or at least partial). Do you think you can make it even more interesting for yourself, please let us know!

2025-01-14 | Sustainable Solar Mounting Design, Sunbeam

Do you want to literally support a sustainable future? At Sunbeam, you can put all your energy into it! As a Sustainable Product Design Intern, you will have the opportunity to analyze our design, production, and supply chain and develop a sustainable alternative for the near future. You will collaborate with various departments to evaluate our products and processes, with the goal of generating more sustainable and efficient solutions.

2024-12-30 | Sustainable Bottle Feeding, Sophia Children’s Hospital

At the Sophia Children’s Hospital, bottle feeding for infants currently involves a single-use system where each time a baby is fed, the bottle and nipple (tit) are discarded. The current setup is not designed to accommodate a reusable bottle system. From the milk kitchen to the departments, the process is far from optimized for sustainability or circularity. Each morning, 900 plastic bottles are prepared in the kitchen, only to be discarded after a single use. When the nipples are included, this practice generates a significant amount of waste, further contributing to the hospital's environmental footprint.

2024-12-28 | The Multigenerational Kitchen, DKG keukens

Older people live independently at home for a longer time and do not want to lose control of their own lives. Focusing on prevention among the elderly increases self-management and self-reliance and contributes to the absence or reduction of loneliness and reduced mobility. Can we adjust the design of the kitchen in such a way that we can contribute to that? But with a beautifully stylish, fresh look and yet in a incredibly simple way to use for elderly or disabled customers, dramatically reducing the associated risks. Shape and design a kitchen of the future that fits all 4 Generations.

2024-12-18 | Develop an improved mechanism for our 3D Pen, MMBrands B.V.

MMBrands B.V. is a European brand specializing in 3D Pens for children. Our mission is to reduce screen time and inspire children to rediscover their creativity through hands-on activities. We are a young, dynamic team that operates with speed and agility. Our current 3D Pen design faces a challenge due to an existing U.S. patent on its mechanism. While this patent is not valid in Europe, it poses limitations for potential entry into the U.S. market. We aim to redesign and improve the 3D Pen mechanism to ensure it does not infringe on the existing patent while maintaining or enhancing its functionality and usability.
