Awareness campaign Acceptable? Or not?
If you were on campus in February, you probably saw the statement posters which we on campus, in the buildings, and in the toilets. These statements are part of the awareness campaign for social safety and integrity. The campaign image shows someone looking in the mirror (in the stickers on the mirrors in toilets, the viewer themself is the leading object). With five different dilemmas, the viewer is challenged to reflect and ask themself the question: what do I think about this?
Dilemmas from the context of our university
The dilemmas in the campaign are examples from within the TU Delft, collected from, among other, the Social Safety & Integrity sounding board group. We also looked at other agencies and organisations, such as the campaign 'Together we draw the line', from central Government.
By scanning the QR code on the statement (screen, billboard, toilet sticker), you are led to the page tudelft.nl/socialeveiligheid. At the top of the page you immediately recognize the dilemmas and there is a call to let us know what you think about it. You can do so by voting in the The Poll. The poll results provide input for blogs that will be written from April onwards. These articles will be available to read via tudelft.nl/socialsafety in due course.
Reactions to the first month of the awareness campaign
After the first month of the campaign, a poll was conducted on campus, among students and staff. A total of 40 respondents shared their experience with the awareness campaign on the basis of four short questions. The general trend is positive. Of all the campaign expressions, the mirror stickers appeal the most.
A large proportion of those surveyed do not see a campaign as the solution to the problem, but as a start. There is a lot of curiosity about what is to come next. The goal of this campaign is to raise awareness, and the campaign certainly seems to contribute to that.
Some quotes:
'It certainly made me think. In the same way, I recalled a situation with this knowledge in the back of my mind and asked myself: what was that like for me then?'
'The quotes (dilemmas, ed.) worked very well. It really makes you think. It's direct enough that you start working on it.'
'I hope that more is happening in the background than we see now. If that is the case, I would like to see it again.'
'Very important, but a campaign alone is not enough. It's about behavioural change.'
Approval of the reporting procedure
Good news! On Thursday 20 February, the Works Council and Student Council agreed the reporting procedure. The next step is the formal decision of the Executive Board. Preparations for the implementation of the reporting point Integrity and Social Safety have already begun.
Mindlab: keep talking and be the change you want to see
The last performances of theater performance Mindlab have taken place. Between mid-November 2024 and early February 2025, 1,681 participants visited 31 performances, after which they discussed their impressions and experiences. 280 follow-up discussions were held, supported by a total of 28 conversation facilitators. After the performance, feedback was collected from the participants. 948 participants completed a feedback form. The insights from this performance and the needs from the community will be used as input to further strengthen and embed the changes and improvements we are currently working.
The appeal to everyone is clear: don't look away, rather keep talking and be the change you want to see.

Awareness campaign continues
Student accomodation
From the first week of March, the dilemmas social safety and integrity will be introduced in 800 Delft student houses. We are using digital signage for this via Turff. Turff is a tablet that hangs in many student houses, with which students can keep track of the beer supply, among other things. Advertisements also pass by on the tablet, including a dilemma from the campaign every hour.
On campus
You may also come across digital signage and mirror stickers in various places. In addition, you might see posters hanging on campus.
New episode podcast 'Acceptable? Or not?
There will be two more episodes of our podcast about social safety and integrity. The next episode deals with the dilemma: 'You express yourself well for someone with your background.' The conversation is about the hidden judgment in this comment.
The episode will be recorded on March 13, and can be listened to at the end of this month.
Work is also being done on English-spoken variants of the podcast episodes. More news about this soon.
Follow the podcast on, for example, Spotify, and you will receive a notification as soon as the next episode is published.
Code of Conduct Dialogue Sessions (formerly 'Work Conferences')
Three dialogue sessions will be organised in May, which will collect input for the recalibration of the code of conduct. The sessions aim to involve and hear from the entire TU Delft community. Conversations will focus on questions such as "What does social (un)safety mean within TU Delft?" and "What do we see as transgressive behaviour?".
The sessions will be informal, accessible sessions and include a lunch or pizza. Two of the three sessions will be English speaking sessions.
Via the website tudelft.nl/socialeveiligheid you will soon find all the information about the dialogue sessions and how to attend.
Under the microscope
In depth, the podcast 'Acceptable? Or not?'
The dilemmas from the awareness campaign make you think, but (hearing or hearing about) exchanging ideas about it with others is even more valuable. That is the purpose of the three-part podcast series 'Acceptable? Or not?'.
"What is acceptable? And what not? And is it the same for everyone?"
Under the guidance of podcast host Marrit de Vries (journalist, learning advisor and presenter), three guests: an expert, an employee and a student, discuss a dilemma. During the first episode, the conversation is about vulnerability, based on the dilemma 'They see me as less competent, because I show vulnerability'. Worth a listen! To the podcast.
"Am I going to say this, or not? Because I depend on these people."
"Sometimes people need trust before they can be vulnerable."
