Cynthia Liem Receives Women in AI Netherlands Diversity Leader Award

Cynthia Liem, associate professor of the Intelligent Systems department, has received the 2024 Women in AI Netherlands Diversity Leader Award. This highlights her contributions to enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusivity within the artificial intelligence (AI) sector.
The award acknowledges those who have worked towards making AI more inclusive, particularly for minority, underrepresented, and marginalised groups. Cynthia has been actively bridging the gap between AI and these communities, expanding her role beyond academia to engage with public and policy-making spheres.

Congratulations to Pravesha for winning the Bèta Techniek Award

We are thrilled to announce that Master’s student of Computer Science, EDIT member and former student council member Pravesha Ramsundersingh was awarded the Bèta Techniek Award.
Pravesha convinced the jury with her balance in creating impact in both the short and long terms. By introducing a code of conduct and making training on diversity & inclusion mandatory for teaching assistants, she took clear steps in bringing about structural changes in improving inclusion in academic institutions. Support for Syria and Turkiye

Dear EEMCS faculty community,
We would like raise awareness and make a call for support to address the two recent heavy earthquakes (with magnitudes of 7.8 and 7.6 sequentially) in Turkiye and Syria. These earthquakes made collapse approximately 6.000 apartments, there are more than 17.000 fatalities in Turkiye, more than 3,000 fatalities in Syria, and millions of people and children in need of humanitarian aid (food, water, and shelter). Unfortunately, these numbers are still increasing.
It is the coldest time of the year in that part of the countries, and it is currently snowing and raining. People who got rescued now face the danger of hunger, hypothermia, and the absence of shelter.
If you would like to help these people, you can donate to AHBAP, a trustworthy NGO in Turkiye that is currently helping victims in the area, or Giro555 in the Netherlands.
Small or big, any donations will contribute a lot.
On behalf of those in need, we express our heartfelt gratitude for your generosity in donating towards humanitarian aid. Your generosity serves as a beacon of hope and a reminder that united, we can bring comfort and relief to those in need.
